VUmc Cancer Center Uncovers How Cancer Cells Evade Sunitinib Treatment

Exciting breakthrough in cancer research: Experts from the VUmc Cancer Center Amsterdam's medical oncology department have revealed that both healthy and cancer cells can package the drug sunitinib—a proven inhibitor used primarily for kidney and gastrointestinal cancers—into vesicles, rendering it ineffective.

By targeting these vesicles, researchers aim to enhance treatments for patients with advanced-stage cancers. This discovery is reported by De Telegraaf.

The team is now investigating whether this mechanism affects other cancer-inhibiting drugs.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
