Colon Cancer Screening Pilot Launches This Week in Southwest Netherlands

Colon cancer is highly treatable when caught early. A new national screening program begins in January, with a pilot launching this week to enable timely detection and save lives.

Over 2,500 residents in southwest Netherlands will receive invitations this week to join the colorectal cancer population screening pilot.

Test Kit
Participants get a simple at-home test kit to collect and mail a stool sample. The RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment) analyzes it for hidden blood, allowing early identification and treatment of potential colorectal cancer.

Nationwide Rollout
From January, about 875,000 people aged 55-75 will be invited annually, expanding to over 2.3 million per year. The test repeats every two years, aiming to prevent 1,400 colon cancer deaths.
