Dutch Health Council Advises Third COVID-19 Vaccine Dose for Severely Immunocompromised Patients

The Health Council of the Netherlands recommends an additional dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for specific patients with severe immune disorders, incorporating it into their primary vaccination series.

Transplant patients, for instance, often exhibit an inadequate immune response to standard COVID-19 vaccination, as noted by the Council.

The RIVM in the Netherlands determines eligibility for this third dose.

The Council also urges preparations for booster vaccinations in other groups once the vaccine's protection against severe illness begins to wane—a situation not yet observed.
