KWF Kankerbestrijding has launched a powerful campaign alongside renowned YouTubers to challenge the widespread and deeply hurtful swear word 'cancer'.
This term is commonly used, especially among young people, and KWF is determined to put an end to it.

One key initiator is YouTuber and FIFA player Koen Weijland. "Words can seriously hurt like a slap in the face. Cancer is such a word that hurts, especially if you are or have been ill or have had to deal with the disease in your environment. During my streams, on social media and on the street, cancer is very often abused. That irritates me and touches me personally because I now experience the disease up close in my family. People do not realize what the impact is of 'swearing with cancer'," he tells the AD.
Johan van de Gronden, director of KWF Kankerbestrijding, tells the AD: "One in three Dutch people is diagnosed with cancer and that means that we all have to deal with it. The use of cancer as a swear word must therefore stop."
