Health insurance premiums are set to rise by 9%— unwelcome news for many. A recent survey reveals that one in four Dutch people worry this could lead to financial difficulties.
Commissioned by HealthTracker and conducted by communication consultancy Porter Novelli and De Vos & Jansen Healthcare, the study polled over 600 Dutch respondents on the health insurance premium increase.
How will they cope?
Just 16% expect no impact from the rising premiums. Nearly nine in ten view the average €104 annual increase as substantial and plan to cut back spending.
The top savings targets? Everyday groceries first, followed by luxuries, dining out, and short trips. Many also plan to take on extra work.
Nearly half strongly oppose the hike, even if it funds healthcare improvements. However, 38.8% would accept it with better care quality, while 28.9% are more tolerant if it shortens waiting lists.
Policy adjustments
Over half (58.6%) are eyeing policies with fewer covered items—especially those under 55. Raising deductibles is less popular but considered by 46.8%, particularly among women and under-30s.
