Mexican flu, also known as swine flu, is sparking minimal concern among the Dutch public—even as officials discuss a potential epidemic this week. This is evident from a recent Health Square survey.
The poll questioned 700 people via Health Square's website about their fears of Mexican flu. A striking 84% responded absolutely not afraid. Most Dutch respondents also doubt they will contract the virus.
Around 70% of participants reported not knowing anyone with the virus, likely contributing to this relaxed attitude. As a result, nearly 60% said they would not get vaccinated against the swine flu virus.
Interestingly, over 10% still expect deaths from swine flu in their local circles, despite the current mortality risk being under 0.5%.
