As public health authorities announce, the annual flu vaccination in the Netherlands will begin a month earlier than usual. Seasonal flu shots start in October, with H1N1 (swine flu) vaccinations following a few weeks later.
Each year, around 4.5 million people receive invitations for flu shots, targeting the elderly and those with chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease and asthma.
Dutch officials have secured 34 million swine flu vaccines—sufficient for two doses per resident. Priority goes to the ill and elderly initially, with further eligibility under review.
