CES 2021: French Startup Unveils Revolutionary Glasses to Combat Motion Sickness

Due to the ongoing health crisis, CES 2021—the world's premier Consumer Electronics Show—is happening virtually this year. A innovative French company showcased a drug-free solution to motion sickness: smart glasses that realign vision with the inner ear.

Four-Ring Technology

Motion sickness arises from a sensory mismatch between visual cues and the vestibular system in the inner ear, leading to nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or fatigue. It's commonly known as carsickness, airsickness, or seasickness. Traditional remedies rely on medications.

At CES 2021, French firm Boarding Ring introduced Boarding Glasses—a unique pair featuring not two, but four rings. Filled with colored liquid that shifts side-to-side (frontal) and forward-backward (sagittal), they resynchronize vision and the inner ear in about 10 minutes.

"When all existing solutions merely treat motion sickness symptoms, Boarding Glasses addresses the root cause, delivering over 94% greater effectiveness," states the company's website.

Suitable from Age 10+

Boarding Ring advises donning the glasses at the first signs of motion sickness. After roughly 10 minutes, remove them to travel comfortably. Priced at €90, a single pair suits entire families—no continuous wear required—and works across all transport types.

One limitation: not recommended for children under 10, despite motion sickness peaking in kids aged 2-12. The one-size-fits-adults design aligns with peripheral vision maturing around age 9-10. They can be worn over prescription glasses.

Based in France's Var department, family-run Boarding Ring (founded 2015) represented the South Region at CES 2021. The glasses are now available at 15 physical stores.
