Many people sweeten their tea with a spoonful of sugar or honey. But what's the true difference between them, and which is healthier?
Honey may seem healthier than granulated sugar, but the reality is they're quite similar. Honey is a mix of glucose and fructose, just like sugar, and your body digests it the same way. The main distinctions: honey has slightly more water and fewer calories per gram.
Honey contains trace amounts of minerals, vitamins, proteins, and other elements, but these don't meaningfully boost your daily intake. It's often perceived as healthier because it's natural—yet granulated sugar from sugar beets is natural too. The Nutrition Center advises limiting honey consumption, just like sugar.
