Does being overweight affect life expectancy less than previously thought?

Research by the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam shows that obese people have just as high a life expectancy as their neighbors who are not overweight.

This conclusion is drawn after the analysis of 6,500 participants of a long-term population survey in Rotterdam. Previous studies have shown different results, so more research is needed.

In addition, the researchers emphasize the importance of a balanced diet. Being overweight does not necessarily lead to premature death, but the risk of type 2 diabetes is higher, especially for women.
