According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), the life expectancy gap between men and women has narrowed considerably since 1980.
Since 1980, the difference in life expectancy between sexes has shrunk. Men's life expectancy has risen by 5.8 years, outpacing women's gain of 3.1 years. Women still lead: girls born in 2008 are projected to live an average of 82.3 years, while boys reach 78.3 years—a four-year gap.
In European life expectancy rankings, Dutch boys born 1996-2006 gained three years of life by 2020, advancing from fifth to fourth place. Dutch girls' life expectancy rose by just 1.5 years.
