How Climate Change Disrupts Sleep Quality: Key Findings from Harvard Research

Climate change is reshaping our world in profound ways—including one impact we might overlook: how global warming affects sleep quality.

A study from the Harvard Kennedy School analyzed self-reported sleep data from U.S. residents, cross-referenced with local weather records across cities.

The results were clear: nights warmer than average correlated with more reports of poor sleep. Researchers estimated that a 1°C temperature rise leads to nine million additional sleepless nights across the United States each month. Put another way, by 2050, this could mean six extra nights of insufficient sleep per 100 people.
