Emmanuel Macron to Address the Nation at 8 PM

As of the evening of March 11, France reported 2,284 cases and 48 deaths—a rise of 500 cases and 15 deaths from the prior day. The country remains at stage 2, though a shift to stage 3 appears imminent. President Emmanuel Macron will deliver a major televised address at 8 PM, aiming to reassure the public amid the government's full-scale crisis response.

Health Minister Olivier Véran highlighted regional disparities, noting the virus is not uniformly circulating nationwide. Around ten clusters have been identified, including in Haute-Savoie, Oise, Mulhouse, and parts of Morbihan, Calvados, Corsica, Hérault, and Aude. Currently, 420,000 students are out of school, and 60,000 workers from 3,600 companies are on technical unemployment.

President Donald Trump has enacted a 30-day entry ban for travelers from the European Union, effective March 13—excluding the UK. He criticized Europe for lacking reciprocal measures, per Ouest France.

Globally, the toll stands at 126,289 confirmed cases and 4,629 deaths, with over 68,000 recoveries. This marks 7,200 new cases and 330 deaths in 24 hours. The WHO has declared a worldwide pandemic. While China and South Korea see slowdowns, Europe struggles, and Iran reports 9,000 cases and 354 deaths as the third-most affected nation.
