France's COVID-19 situation shows no signs of improvement, with daily case increases. Globally, confirmed cases have now surpassed 100,000, as reported by leading health authorities, while other nations face severe challenges.
Huffington Post's March 6, 2020, evening report confirmed 613 cases and 9 deaths—up 190 cases and 2 deaths from the prior day. Director General of Health Jérôme Salomon reported 39 patients in serious condition, a rise of 16. All mainland regions and overseas territories including Guadeloupe, Guyana, and Martinique are affected.
Haut-Rhin has seen a sharp case surge, triggering a "reinforced stage 2" protocol. This enforces stricter measures, such as banning gatherings of more than 50 people in enclosed spaces, public meetings, cultural events, and sports (except behind closed doors). The prefect has mandated immediate school closures where ill students or staff are confirmed.

The Johns Hopkins University dashboard shows 101,917 confirmed cases and around 3,500 deaths. Over 57,000 have recovered. China's slowdown persists, but Iran (4,747 cases / 124 deaths) and Italy (4,636 / 197) are struggling. South Korea (6,593 / 42 deaths) is making progress in containment.
Worsening trends appear in Germany (670 cases / 0 deaths), Spain (400 / 5), the United States (317 / 12), and Switzerland (214 / 1). The virus is emerging in Latin America and Africa, with new cases in Costa Rica, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Cameroon, Togo, and Senegal.
COVID-19 has mutated into two strains: S (original from Wuhan, 30% of cases) and L (more aggressive and human-adapted, 70% of cases).
