China's coronavirus cases spiked by over 13,000 in a single day following a new diagnostic protocol. Meanwhile, two of France's 11 hospitalized patients have fully recovered and been discharged.
As reported by Hong Kong's South China Morning Post on February 13, 2020, the epidemic tally stood at 60,107 confirmed cases and 1,363 deaths, with 5,680 recoveries. This marked more than 13,000 new cases in just 24 hours—a sharp increase driven by China's adoption of a broader diagnostic protocol.
The updated criteria now include clinically diagnosed cases, allowing chest X-rays on suspects to confirm infections alongside traditional nucleic acid tests. Chinese health authorities attribute this to gained diagnostic experience and deeper disease understanding.

Globally, Japan's Diamond Princess cruise ship added 39 new cases, bringing the onboard total to 219 and Japan's national figure to 247. Hong Kong and Singapore each reported around 50 cases, rounding out the top three outside China.
Per Le Monde on February 12, two patients in France have recovered. These are the first among the country's 11 confirmed cases—a Chinese couple in their 30s hospitalized in Paris after arriving from Wuhan on January 18. They have been discharged from Bichat Hospital.
The hospital's infectious disease team followed an internationally agreed, highly rigorous discharge protocol: resolution of symptoms like cough and fever, plus two negative tests within 24 hours. Nine cases remain in France.
