COVID-19 Update: Italy Nears Epidemic Peak, France Tops 3,000 Deaths, U.S. Cases Exceed 164,000

With COVID-19 cases surging across the United States, experts warn of a devastating potential death toll between 100,000 and 200,000. France has surpassed 3,000 fatalities, while Italy shows early signs of exceeding the epidemic's peak amid declining new daily cases, despite persistent deaths.

U.S. Faces Rapid Escalation

As reported by Le Figaro, President Donald Trump addressed the nation on March 30, 2020, extending restrictions until April 30. He recently opted against locking down New York City, which had reported 914 deaths. The U.S. now tallies 164,274 confirmed cases and around 2,500 deaths, with conditions deteriorating swiftly. Trump indicated the peak in deaths could arrive in two weeks.

Echoing a top expert's dire projections, the president noted that a final toll of 100,000 to 200,000 deaths would reflect effective measures. Without intervention, the expert warned, it could have reached 2 million deaths. This positions the U.S. for one of the world's heaviest burdens.
