Antibiotic resistance is a major threat

You've probably heard it said:taking antibiotics too often can eventually make you resistant to them. British government chief medical adviser sees great danger in this.

In Great Britain, 1,250 people die every year from infections that can no longer be cured by antibiotics. According to senior adviser Sally Davies, that could have serious consequences. In 20 years, a simple medical intervention could have fatal consequences, because the pharmaceutical industry does too little to develop new types of antibiotics.

Great danger
The problem that fewer and fewer antibiotics work has been a problem for some time. Sally Davies wants to get the topic on the political agenda. According to her, antibiotic resistance will become just as dangerous as terrorism and climate change.
