In the city you move more

Although the countryside is always seen as being exercise-friendly, people in the city appear to be more active.

Movement in the city
This is the claim of researcher Delfien van Dyck of Ghent University. The high population density, the presence of shops and public services and good connections between these destinations stimulate movement in cities. People often move and often do so in an active way. They walk and cycle about 15 minutes more daily to get somewhere and also walk more in their spare time than rural residents.

Previous research
Previous studies in the United States and Australia also showed that adults in the city are more active. And now that it is clear why this is, it can be taken into account when designing cities. Then there will only be more movement, which ultimately benefits the health of the residents.
