Rising Plastic Contamination in Drinking Water: A Global Concern

Drinking water around the world is increasingly tainted with plastic, primarily in the form of microscopic fibers.

European tap water fares best among tested regions. Samples from England, France, and Germany revealed relatively low contamination levels, yet plastic was found in 72% of the samples. A leading plastics expert warns that while wildlife is already suffering health impacts from waterborne plastics, humans may face similar risks in the years ahead.

Projections indicate that by 2050, oceans could contain more plastic than fish by weight. The Netherlands ranks among the top marine polluters. On 16 September, join the After Summer Beach Cleanup in Scheveningen, organized by Rising Plastic Contamination in Drinking Water: A Global ConcernEcover and WasteBoards.

To combat the plastic crisis, Ecover has launched a limited-edition product in a bottle made from 50% recycled ocean plastic waste. Suggested retail price: €2.99.
