Not every pound goes through the mouth

The intestinal flora appears to have an influence on obesity.

Research
This is the result of research by researcher Froukje Verdam of Maastricht UMC+. A conclusion that is contrary to what was previously thought and which may be of great importance for the treatment of overweight and obesity. Influencing gut-related factors could now be effective.

Restore
People who are seriously overweight all appear to have a characteristic intestinal flora and the intestinal flora of overweight people is associated with both a local inflammation in the intestine and a general inflammation in the blood. An explanation for this may be that the Paneth cells, cells in the small intestine that are partly responsible for the composition of the intestinal flora, contain fewer antimicrobial proteins in obese people. If this is the case, then recovery from overweight is suddenly a big step closer.
