University of Westminster Study: Warm Air Dryers Increase Hand Bacteria by Up to 254%

Research from scientists at the University of Westminster shows that hot air dryers significantly increase the average number of bacteria on hands.

Bacteria Spread
The forceful airflow from these dryers disperses bacteria throughout the restroom. Jet-air dryers, with their powerful cold blasts, can propel microbes up to two meters away.

Paper towels, by contrast, effectively remove bacteria from hands, trapping them in the towel for disposal in the bin.

In high-traffic public settings like schools and hospitals, opting for paper towels is crucial for hygiene.

Key Findings:
Jet air dryers increase bacteria by 42% (fingers) and 15% (palms);
Standard warm air dryers increase bacteria by 194% (fingers) and 254% (palms);
Paper towels decrease bacteria by 76% (fingers) and 77% (palms).
