Recent Australian research published in The Journal of the American Heart Association shows that watching too much TV is as harmful as smoking or obesity.
In the study, researchers tracked 8,800 Australians over six years. The findings reveal that people watching TV for four or more hours daily face an 80% higher risk of heart disease compared to those watching less than two hours. The risk of other conditions, like cancer, also rises by 11%.
Lead researcher David Dunstan notes that prolonged screen time is as dangerous as smoking, poor diet, high cholesterol, or excess weight. Even sedentary jobs heighten illness risk, as prolonged sitting harms blood sugar and cholesterol levels, even in otherwise healthy individuals.
