Dutch Fear Colleagues as Top Cold and Flu Spreaders: Vicks National Cold Survey Insights

With sniffles sweeping the Netherlands and swine flu (also known as Mexican flu) gaining ground, Vicks—trusted for its throat lozenges—shares key findings from its annual National Cold Survey, conducted by research firm TNS NIPO.

The survey polled 1,600 Dutch respondents on their experiences and knowledge of colds and swine flu. Results show a quarter are somewhat afraid of catching swine flu, fueling frustration with those who cough or sneeze without covering their mouth.

Dutch people estimate a flu virus survives an average of 8.6 hours—far short of the actual 72 hours. To stay safe, respondents report washing hands more often, averaging 4.3 times daily.
