As 2022 unfolds, Dutch New Year's resolutions often include weight loss, fitness goals, or smile enhancements like braces. A PlusDental survey shows 73.5% of respondents want dental treatments to improve their teeth. Men lead this trend: 1 in 4 ranks it third after fitness (54.6%) and weight loss (43%). For women, it falls to sixth (19.6%). Men cite self-confidence boosts as the main driver, while women prioritize positive impressions on others.
Women appear more attuned to appearance overall. Fewer than 10% of men seek cosmetic treatments, versus over 20% of women. Weight loss ranks higher too: 43% of men versus nearly 60% of women.
Did endless video calls erode our self-esteem by forcing constant self-viewing? This PlusDental research debunks the idea. One in three Dutch say the COVID-19 pandemic had no impact on confidence. Younger adults (16-25) report greater self-awareness, 10% higher than average. Over half agree changes are for personal feel-good benefits.
Could 2022 be the year for real change? At PlusDental, we're making it happen. Partnered with practices across the Netherlands, we've digitized the entire aligner treatment process—Berlin-engineered invisible braces that make smile improvements simple and accessible.
