The gums of the Dutch population are frequently neglected and inflamed, as revealed by a study from the Dutch Association of Dental Hygienists (NVM) conducted at the National Health Fair.
In 99% of participants examined, the gums showed poor care—bleeding easily with deepened pockets indicating inflammation and breakdown of supporting tissues, including the jawbone.
Few understand that dental plaque causes these inflammations. Effective oral hygiene is essential to halt them.
The NVM study found 65% of those surveyed had never visited a dental hygienist. Hygienists deliver targeted treatments to restore gum health and offer expert advice on daily oral care.
