Why Children's Yoga Boosts Focus, Relaxation, and Fun: A Parent's Real Experience

Last year, in one of my blogs, I shared how yoga has transformed my life. Seeing its benefits firsthand, I signed up my daughter Laura for a trial children's yoga class. That's when I discovered Karin van der Bruggen, who runs her own practice in Loon op Zand and specializes in teaching yoga to young children.

Kids' yoga: concentration, relaxation, and strength in one engaging class!

On a Wednesday morning, Karin warmly welcomed Laura and me. She had just launched classes for toddlers and preschoolers. We began with simple breathing exercises, just like in adult yoga, followed by imaginative poses like the cat, dog, and cobra that captivated Laura's attention.

There was also dancing and singing, delivered in a way that held Laura's interest. The class demanded focus and concentration—perfect for my energetic girl. Karin tailored everything to the 2-4 age group, using themed props that Laura adored. Afterward, she eagerly asked when we could return. A resounding success!

The Proven Effects of Children's Yoga

Today's children face immense demands. School requires sustained concentration amid a barrage of daily stimuli they must process.

Children's yoga helps kids release the chaos, sharpen focus, and thrive without performance pressure—unlike competitive sports. With endless activities for toddlers, why choose yoga? Karin explains: “Toddler and preschool yoga emphasizes body relaxation, building awareness of senses and stimuli. It's a gentle way to teach kids to connect body and mind positively.”
