Children aged 4 to 8 reach their 'Sugar Max Day' today, July 9. But what is it, and do other age groups have one too?
The 'Sugar Max Day' is an awareness initiative by food watchdog Foodwatch. It highlights the date when you've consumed the maximum added sugars recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for the entire year.
Children in this group hit their limit earliest because they consume the highest relative amount of sugars—from sugary drinks and sweets. Data from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) shows they intake more than 31 kilograms of sugar per year.
