Over 5 Million Babies Born Worldwide Through IVF Since 1978

While IVF remains a topic not everyone discusses openly, this pioneering fertility treatment—introduced in 1978—has enabled the birth of more than 5 million babies around the globe.

Progress has accelerated dramatically in recent years. Strikingly, half of all IVF babies were born after 2007. From 1978 to 1990, roughly 20 babies arrived daily via IVF, when costs were high and awareness low. By 1990 to 2000, that figure had soared to over 220 per day.

Success Rates
The data paints an optimistic picture overall. That said, age significantly impacts outcomes—success rates decline annually, underscoring the importance of timely treatment:

Under 35 years: 32% chance.
35–37 years: 28%.
38–39 years: 21%.
40–42 years: 14%.
