Netherlands Mandates Breast Implant Registration Starting Late This Year

Starting late this year, all breast prostheses in the Netherlands will require mandatory registration. This step aims to enhance patient safety and traceability.

The Dutch Society for Plastic Surgery is spearheading the development of this national registry system.

The initiative addresses past concerns like those with PIP implants, enabling swift identification of implant brands and affected patients when issues arise.

A decade ago, a voluntary registry was proposed but never launched due to low participation. Now, registration is compulsory unless patients formally object.
