With rainy, hail-filled days and strong winds in the forecast, colds are inevitable. In 2020, researchers at New Zealand's Plant & Food Research examined how specific fruits impact cold symptoms.

Yellow Kiwis vs. Bananas
The study tracked 37 healthy adults over 65 for 20 weeks. Participants ate one yellow kiwi daily for four weeks, then one banana daily for four weeks, alternating with fruit-free periods. Blood samples were analyzed for antioxidants and immune responses.

Key Findings
During the kiwi phase, cold symptoms dropped significantly. Sore throat duration fell from 5.4 to 2 days, and head colds from 4.7 to 0.9 days. Yellow kiwis also boosted blood levels of vitamin C and antioxidants.
