Mediterranean Diet Reduces Hay Fever in Greek Youth: Study Insights

Young people in Greece experience fewer hay fever symptoms than those in Western Europe.

Greek researchers from Crete explored why local youth report fewer hay fever complaints than peers in Western Europe. In 2020, they analyzed the diets of 700 children and teens aged 7 to 18. The study revealed that Greek youth consume more fresh fruits and vegetables than Western Europeans, along with higher amounts of nuts.

Fruits, Vegetables & Nuts
These foods are packed with antioxidants and minerals that protect against hay fever. Red grapes offer the highest levels of these beneficial compounds, while apples, grapefruit, oranges, tomatoes, and nuts provide substantial amounts too.

Apples Also Combat Hay Fever
Nuts serve as a natural magnesium source, helping prevent key hay fever symptoms like wheezing, particularly in those with asthma.
