Record Surge: Nearly 1 Million Dutch Switch Health Insurers Amid Premium Hikes

De Volkskrant reports that nearly a million people have switched health insurers this year, based on initial data from Zorgverzekeraars Nederland (ZN).

ZN director Pieter Hasekamp states the switcher rate stands at 5 to 6 percent—one and a half times higher than in previous years. He calls it a deliberate consumer choice and a clear trend shift.

Cheaper Alternatives
A sharp rise in basic insurance premiums was expected to drive more switches. Internet-based policies are gaining traction for their lower costs, as they often skip physical service desks and points in hospitals or care centers—features of traditional insurers. AnderZorg from Menzis leads as the top internet insurer.
