Experienced a challenging delivery? Research shows it significantly raises the risk of postpartum depression.
Experts from Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, after a long-term study, found that women who faced issues like preeclampsia (pregnancy poisoning) during pregnancy are more prone to postpartum depression after giving birth.
Spotting postpartum depression
The researchers note that about one in seven women risks postnatal depression following labor or delivery complications. With multiple issues, this jumps to one in four.
These cases often go unrecognized. Watch for signs like insomnia, sudden weight gain or loss—prompt action is essential.
Key advice
A mother's depression can impact her child's development. Closely monitor women with pregnancy or birth complications to intervene early and prevent worsening symptoms.
