French Innovators Launch Portable Air Purifier to Combat COVID-19 in Small Spaces

In France's Isère region, two companies have unveiled a groundbreaking portable air purifier designed to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. This compact device uses micro-diffusion of a proven active substance to purify air effectively—and it's 100% natural.

A Pioneering Solution for Air Purification

Effective ventilation is a key strategy in preventing coronavirus transmission in enclosed spaces like homes and offices, reducing viral particle concentrations and infection risks. While HEPA filter purifiers are common in places like German classrooms, two Grésivaudan-based firms in Isère have developed a novel alternative, as reported by Le Dauphiné Libéré on November 2, 2020. At the core is HSDI, experts in natural solutions across industries.

HSDI leveraged its air freshener, validated in 2012 against the MERS-CoV coronavirus, partnering with Parolai Stil’Eco to refine it—making it quieter and more appealing for broader use.

Portable, User-Friendly, and Certified

“When we first pitched this solution months ago, we faced skepticism. Clients demanded proof, but air purification lacks universal standards. We invested heavily in certifications to build trust,” shares Jérôme Lopez, head of Parolai Stil’Eco.

Prototyped in April 2020, the Stil’Air Mini is now available. HSDI's larger models suit warehouses over 100 m², while this USB-powered desk unit covers offices up to 25-30 m². It's highly portable and features HSDI's bactericidal, fungicidal, and virucidal formula.

Rigorous testing secured certifications: EN 1040 (bactericidal), EN 1275 (fungicidal), EN 13727 (fungicidal in dirty conditions), and EN 14476 (broad-spectrum virucidal). Dozens of units have sold since launch, prompting production of 300 more.
