Dubai, a global leader in adopting cutting-edge technology, continues to innovate even amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Local law enforcement has introduced smart helmets to remotely check public temperatures, enhancing safety measures.
The United Arab Emirates has reported over 13,500 cases and 119 deaths, making it one of the hardest-hit nations in the Middle East by COVID-19. Dubai Police, renowned for leveraging the latest tech, have equipped officers with these innovative helmets. As reported by Reuters on April 24, 2020, the devices enable non-contact temperature screening of the public.
"To effectively combat the COVID-19 pandemic, we have implemented this device across all Dubai police stations and for patrol officers on the front lines," stated Aly al-Ramsy, a Dubai police officer.

Developed by Chinese firm KC Wearable, these helmets excel in performance. A video from March 27, 2020 (available at article's end) demonstrates their ability to scan 200 people per minute from up to five meters away. If elevated temperatures are detected, an alert notifies the officer, who can then detain the individual and summon an ambulance for transport to the nearest health center. This provides a swift and effective isolation method for potential cases.
Dubai Police deploy the helmets at high-traffic areas to screen entrants. The virus spread rapidly in migrant worker communities living in crowded conditions, prompting strict lockdowns in affected city sectors to curb the outbreak.
KC Wearable reports selling 1,000 units across the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. While outperforming traditional thermal guns, the helmets cannot detect asymptomatic carriers.
