Leading researchers worldwide are advancing treatments for cerebrovascular accidents (strokes). At Toulouse University Hospital (CHU), the Toulouse Neuro Imaging Center (ToNIC) of Inserm invites healthy volunteers to a compensated study on post-stroke motor recovery.
According to a recent press release, ToNIC at Inserm conducts essential stroke studies in collaboration with Rangueil Hospital at Toulouse CHU. They seek healthy men and women to compare with stroke patients, gaining insights into how antispastic treatments influence motor recovery. This work aims to enhance management for stroke survivors. Compensation is up to €100 for qualified participants: men or women aged 45-77 with no history of stroke or neurological conditions. The study requires one 2.5-hour visit, including a medical exam and brain MRI scan. Note: Claustrophobia disqualifies participants due to the MRI.
ToNIC also recruits for other studies, such as the ongoing ULAF-BoT Stroke trial (since January 2020), examining botulinum toxin's role in improving upper limb movement for post-stroke patients with motor deficits.
Stroke research frequently makes headlines. In 2018, UK experts found stroke survivors twice as likely to develop dementia. In 2017, Australian scientists identified a protective protein from spider venom against stroke-induced brain damage. In 2016, a Spanish university launched virtual reality-based rehabilitation for victims.
