The pill remains in the stomach for a full month, steadily releasing hormones to prevent pregnancy, as reported by RTLnieuws.nl. Once the hormones are depleted, the body naturally breaks down the pill and expels it.
While more research is needed before it reaches the market, experts are optimistic: "In theory, a monthly pill may be more effective than the daily pill used so far." The findings are published in the peer-reviewed journal Science Translational Medicine.
