Tracking your diet, exercising regularly, and prioritizing sleep are proven steps toward better health—but adding a dog to your life can amplify those benefits significantly.
Two recent studies published by the American Heart Association reveal that dog owners live longer and face a lower risk of heart problems. These furry companions offer numerous advantages, particularly for singles.

Dog owners have a 31% lower risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke, with a 24% reduced chance of premature death overall.
Caroline Kramer, researcher at the University of Toronto, explains: "People with dogs tend to be more active, leading to improved blood pressure and cholesterol levels—which in turn lowers cardiovascular disease risk."
For those who've already had a heart attack, owning a dog is especially beneficial—particularly for singles. Among 182,000 heart patients studied, singles with dogs showed a 33% lower risk of a second heart attack and 27% reduced stroke risk. Those living with a partner or child saw 15% and 12% reductions, respectively.
