Many of us have been told to avoid crossing our legs while sitting, yet it's a go-to position for countless women. But does this habit really pose health risks?
Health expert Jennifer Wider, MD, clarifies common myths. 'There's no scientific evidence linking crossed legs directly to varicose veins,' she explains in an interview with HelloGiggles.

That said, crossing your legs isn't ideal. It tilts your hips out of alignment, straining posture and potentially impacting your spine. Over time, this may lead to back or neck pain. Studies also show temporary blood pressure spikes in this position, and it can compress nerves, causing numbness in your leg or foot—a sensation we all know too well.
Occasional crossing is fine, but for optimal health, keep both feet flat on the floor.
