Tips against itching in your ear

Itching in your ear is very annoying. How does it come about? And more importantly:what can you do about it?

The causes of itching in your ear:excessive cleaning

Often it starts in your ear because of a disturbance in the ear. This can be caused by excessive cleaning with a cotton swab. If a small cut occurs in your ear, bacteria that live on the skin can cause inflammation. That sometimes causes pain or a runny ear, but more often it (also) causes itching.

Itching in your ear from a hearing aid

Do you often wear earplugs or do you have a hearing aid? That can also be a trigger for itching in the ear. Normally, your ear drains earwax itself, so dirt and dander are also worked out. If your ear canal is often closed, your ear cannot drain earwax and that can start to heat.

Itching due to water in your ear

Often itching in the ear is referred to as a "swimmer's ear." That's because water in the ear is also a cause of itching. Moisture gives mold more chance.

What can you do against itching in your ear?

The most important advice is immediately the hardest advice:don't do it. Give your itchy ear as much rest as possible. After showering, you can dry your ear with the tip of your towel. Do not use cotton swabs or other objects to clean your ear. If your ear is painful, you can dry it with a hair dryer on a low setting. There are special ear sprays against itching. If you continue to suffer, ask your doctor for advice.
