Your healthy blood can make a life-saving difference. In the Netherlands, men can donate up to five times a year, women three times—totaling 724,000 donations annually that save around 20,000 lives.
Ruud Delwel, a molecular biologist, professor, and hematology expert at Erasmus MC, explains: "You can lose about 14% of your blood without major issues. Beyond that, it becomes critical. After an accident, a transfusion can be lifesaving. We also use platelets from donations to aid patients post-intensive treatments."
