What can you do about sweating a lot?

What can you do about sweating a lot?

Dark sweat spots under your armpits, you don't want that. We list six ways to tackle a lot of sweating.

1. Wear breathable clothing
If you notice that you perspire more in certain clothes, this could be the solution. Synthetic clothing causes the skin to heat, causing you to perspire. Fabrics made from natural fibers – such as cotton or silk – breathe better, so your skin doesn't overheat and you sweat less.

2. Keep your armpits clean
Wash your armpits every day with a mild soap. If necessary, throw your clothes in the wash after wearing them for one day. Sweat only starts smelling as soon as bacteria are added, which is why clean clothing is important.

3. Adjust your diet
Spicy food warms up your body and hard-to-digest foods make your body work harder. Some people may sweat. But sugar, red meat, coffee and alcohol can also increase sweat production. Choose healthy food with lots of vitamin B. You sweat less from grains, fish, sage and tomato juice. Be careful with seasonings such as garlic. This gives sweat a strong odor.

4. Sweat inhibitors
There are special products available that inhibit sweat. They contain aluminum chloride salts. These salts clog the drainage ducts of sweat glands, so that perspiration cannot be released. This prevents excessive sweating and odors. The downside is that glands get clogged. This may cause you to sweat more in other places.

5. Botox Botox isn't just for filling your wrinkles, it can also paralyze sweat glands. A specialist injects botox with small injections into your armpit skin. Botox blocks sweat stimuli from the nerves to the sweat glands, so that these sweat glands no longer receive signals and sweat production decreases sharply for a period of about six months.

6. First go to the doctor Before taking drastic measures, go to your doctor for advice. Your GP can inform you about the options and possible side effects or risks of various treatments.
