Drinking enough water is a proven pillar of good health, with research regularly underscoring its benefits. Simply replacing one daily glass of sugary soda with water can help you gain far less weight over time.
Harvard University researchers analyzed data from over 125,000 participants tracked from 1986 to 2007. Every four years, they completed detailed questionnaires on their eating and drinking habits.
Key Research Findings
Participants gained an average of 1.5 kilograms every four years. Those who swapped a daily soda for water gained 1.5 kg less over four years. Substituting fruit juice with water saved an average of 0.35 kg in the same timeframe.
Appealing Water Alternatives
Find plain water unexciting? Switching soda or juice for coffee, tea, skim milk, or zero-sugar sodas delivers similar weight-control advantages.
