After months of waiting, the sun is finally shining brightly across the Netherlands. We all want to make the most of it, but a bit of caution ensures we do so safely.
Acclimating to the Heat
This warm weather is rare here, so your body needs time to adjust. Spending all day in direct sunlight isn't advisable—not only due to sunburn risk, but because sunstroke can strike unexpectedly.
Sunstroke Symptoms
Sunstroke hits when your body temperature exceeds 40°C and sweating stops, causing dangerous overheating. Watch for headaches, dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat, dilated pupils, shallow breathing, and skin that's either red and hot or cold and clammy with heavy perspiration.
Prevention and Response
Suspect sunstroke? Seek shade or a cool area immediately and drink plenty of water—vital as it can become life-threatening. Better yet, prevent it: shield your head from the sun, stay hydrated, and take regular cool-down breaks to enjoy the sunshine worry-free.
