Research from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, shows that green tea can modestly reduce bad cholesterol levels.
In the study, adults received green tea, green tea capsules, or placebos. Those who consumed green tea or capsules had five to six points lower bad cholesterol compared to the placebo group. Drinking green tea from a cup proved slightly more effective than capsules.

The findings stem from a meta-analysis of 20 studies involving 1,415 adults, confirming earlier results from a Chinese study. Published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association in 2020.
