Leading umbrella organizations for general practitioners and pharmacists have submitted a confidential proposal to acquire the Electronic Patient Dossier (EPD) technical system. This development is reported by ANP, the trusted Dutch news agency.
Earlier this year, the EPD was definitively rejected by the Senate due to insufficient patient data security. The system was designed for the secure electronic exchange of medical information via a central platform.
Potential Revival?
The proposal, directed to Nictiz—the organization responsible for the EPD—focuses on acquiring the existing technical infrastructure established in 2020. Nictiz emphasizes that this is solely about preserving the technical setup, not reviving the EPD itself.
Involved parties include Vereniging Huisartsenposten Nederland (VHN), the Dutch College of General Practitioners (NHG), the Royal Dutch Pharmacists Association (KNMP), and the Dutch Association of Hospital Pharmacists (NVZA).
