A special meeting last night finalized agreement on the terms for the electronic patient record (EPD).
Yesterday, the National Association of General Practitioners approved EPD implementation. Of the regions, 16 voted in favor, 5 against, and 2 abstained.
Key Privacy Adjustment
In 2011, politicians rejected the new EPD version over patient privacy concerns. Now, inclusion requires explicit patient consent—an opt-in model—reversing the prior opt-out system.
Voluntary for GPs
General practitioners can opt out, preventing access to their patient data. Participating GPs receive cost contributions.
Robust Privacy Measures
Initially, access is limited: GPs and pharmacies view only regional files, while hospitals access all available records.
Voting Details
The National Association, representing 11,500 members, conducted the vote. The smaller Association of General Practitioners (650 members) opposes it and plans legal action.
