Dutch Senate Definitively Rejects National Electronic Patient Dossier (EPD) Bill

The national Electronic Patient Dossier (EPD) is officially off the table. The Senate has voted against the bill that would regulate it.

As we previously reported, a majority in the Senate saw little value in the current proposal. Now, after a general vote, the bill has been definitively rejected. No Senate faction supports nationwide linking of patient data—even the initially reluctant CDA voted against it.

What are the reasons? Senators cited unclear objectives and serious privacy concerns. Health Minister Edith Schippers (VVD) had suggested limiting the EPD to medication use data only, but this fell short of convincing them.
