Experts in the United States have developed a blood test that identifies individuals at risk for type 2 diabetes—also known as adult-onset diabetes—up to 10 years before symptoms emerge.
This test measures concentrations of five key amino acids in the blood to predict diabetes risk accurately. Early identification of high-risk cases could prevent serious complications, such as blindness and kidney failure.
Further research underway: The team aims to deepen understanding of diabetes development. While promising, the test requires additional studies before commercialization for general use.
Findings were published in Nature Medicine.
