How Tea Counters Weight Gain and Health Risks from High-Fat Diets: Key Findings from Mouse Study

Research led by Professor Carrie Ruxton and colleagues reveals that drinking tea can help prevent weight gain triggered by high-fat diets, based on a controlled study with mice.

The investigation uncovered multiple health benefits of drinking tea, especially in mitigating poor dietary impacts.

Mice followed either high-fat or normal diets and were subdivided to receive water, black tea, or green tea over 14 weeks.

Both teas significantly curbed weight gain and reduced belly fat buildup linked to unhealthy diets. Black tea further offset blood-related harm, including rises in cholesterol, high blood glucose, and insulin resistance.

Tea for Optimal Health
Though human trials are pending to confirm these effects, the study bolsters evidence that tea helps prevent weight gain. Long-term tea consumption (over 10 years) is associated with lower risks of heart disease, cancer, and Parkinson's disease, along with stronger bones.
